BizTalk Server 2013

BizTalk Server 2013 itself focuses on the following aspects:

  • Platform support: supporting the latest server and development platforms.
  • Improved B2B: better adaptation to industry standards, and improved performance.
  • Ready for the cloud: enabling customers to use the advantages of cloud computing more effectively.

Each of the improvements and innovations in BizTalk 2013 falls into one of these categories. Listed below are the major new features:

  1. Updated Platform Support: BizTalk Server 2013 includes support for the following versions of Microsoft products:Windows Server 2012 en Windows 8; SQL Server 2012 en SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1; .NET Framework 4.5; Visual Studio 2012
  2. Integration with Cloud Services: BizTalk Server 2013 is capable of easily extending an on-premise solution to the cloud. There is a strong integration between BizTalk Server applications and the Windows Azure Service Bus. BizTalk Server 2013 uses new ‘out of the box’ adapters for sending and receiving messages with the Windows Azure Service Bus. It is also possible to exchange messages via various relay endpoints that are hosted in Azure.
  3. Licensing Requirements: The licensing requirements are adapted for use in the cloud. It is now allowed to host BizTalk in the cloud within the Azure IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) solution. In this way, and because of the technical changes to the product, it is possible to install and support a complete virtual machine in Azure.
  4. RESTful Service: BizTalk Server 2013 makes invoking of REST endpoints possible and allows BizTalk Server artefacts to be exposed as a RESTful service. REST is now well integrated into the product.
  5. Improved SharePoint Adapter: With BizTalk Server 2013, the integration with SharePoint has become just as simple as integration with a file share. There is no longer any dependency on SharePoint farms.
  6. SFTP Adapter: BizTalk Server 2013 offers support for sending and receiving secure messages via an SFTP (Secure FTP) server. This is a request that developers have been making for years, and is a welcome development as components or solutions from third parties are now no longer necessary.
  7. ESB Toolkit Integration: In earlier BizTalk Server versions the ESB Toolkit was complicated to install. The ESB Toolkit is now fully integrated into BizTalk Server and the installation is greatly simplified to allow quick setup.
  8. Dependency Tracking: The dependencies between artefacts can now be viewed from the Admin Console.
  9. Dynamic Send Ports: Host handlers can now be set per adapter.
